Miles – The Autobiography; Miles Davis with Quincy Troupe
It sounds a bit weird to READ about jazz but for me it’s quite enlightening to fall into a book about great jazz musicians. Right now my reading meanders round about Miles and Bird, learning about a bunch of other musicians at the same time. So unless you don’t suffer from a „motherfucker“ allergy (you could cut the book short by one third, if you delete it from the text, like Billie Holiday’s autobiography could be reduced by half if you deleted all „bitches“) grab that fantastic book and dive into Mile’s world. It’s worth while reading „Round About Midnight“ before that (being without cursing the volume is really slim), as you find more fact based content and less telling a story. Besides what Miles, Bird, Monk and all the other cats where doing you get a lot of motivation to develop as a musician, to listen to all the cats he’s talking about and to see that even Miles had to earn his chops.
